Store Massachusetts rec flower in an airtight glass jar, in the dark, around 60% relative humidity, at room temperature — not in the freezer, not in a hot car. Light, heat, oxygen, and a bone-dry or soaking-wet jar are what turn a loud eighth into hay.
We cure in Uxbridge so the terpenes are still there when the shop receives the case. After that, the shop's storage and yours decide whether it still smells like itself a week later.
The four things that wreck flower
- Light. UV knocks terpenes and cannabinoids down. A clear jar on a windowsill is a display, not storage.
- Heat. A glove box in August will dry it and flatten the nose. Do not leave an eighth in the car while you run errands.
- Oxygen. Every time you open the pack you swap aroma for air. Open it, take what you need, close it.
- Wrong humidity. Too dry and it crumbles and tastes like paper. Too wet and you risk mold. A two-way humidity pack in the 58–62% range is the boring, correct tool.
What to use
Glass with a real lid beats the plastic eighth you walked out with, once you are home. Keep the original Massachusetts label with the package — that is your lot, test, and recall info. A 62% pack (you will see that number printed on the little envelope) is industry standard for flower. Do not add orange peel, bread, or a wet paper towel. Those are mold projects.
What not to do
Do not freeze it for “freshness” unless you know exactly why you are doing that for long-term hash making. Ice crystals wreck trichomes on flower you plan to use next week. Do not refrigerate it next to onions. Flower is a sponge for smells.
At the shop
Ask when the lot hit the floor. A well-run case should still have a nose. If the Gibby's eighth you open at home is already flat, that is worth a conversation with the shop — not a sign that “hand-trimmed doesn't smell.” Our rooms in Uxbridge are not shipping hay.
