TL;DR: Gibby's Garden made history before most people in Massachusetts had bought legal cannabis at all. It was the first microbusiness the state ever licensed, with its provisional license granted on November 1, 2018. Today that same operation carries on as Gibby's Craft Cannabis, the name we lead with now, and it's run by the Lifted Genetics team out of Uxbridge.

Gibby's Garden made history before most people in Massachusetts had bought legal cannabis at all. It was the first microbusiness the state ever licensed, with its provisional license granted on November 1, 2018. Today that same operation carries on as Gibby's Craft Cannabis, the name we lead with now, and it's run by the Lifted Genetics team out of Uxbridge.

This is the story of how a first-of-its-kind license became a craft-first family operation, and what we're trying to do with it.

A first that mattered

When Massachusetts created the microbusiness license, the smallest cannabis license type, built so local, owner-operated growers could enter a market that otherwise rewards size, Gibby's Garden was first in line and first approved. Being first isn't just a trivia answer. It meant betting on a small-scale, local model at a time when nobody knew whether that model could survive next to large, well-funded companies. That bet is the foundation everything else is built on.

Reimagined, not replaced

The operation was acquired by the Lifted Genetics team, who took over full operations and reimagined what Gibby's could be. We say reimagined deliberately. We're standing on a license and a name with real history, and elevating it, sharpening the focus on craft cultivation, small batches, and clean growing, rather than starting from scratch. The history is part of the value, not something to paper over.

Leading the grow is Mike Griffiths, our COO and Master Grower. Mike has more than a decade as a master grower and spent five years in Massachusetts commercial cannabis at operations including NETA, Jushi Holdings, and Mayflower Medicinals before bringing that experience to a small-batch room where he can actually slow down. Dave Griffiths is CEO and founder of Lifted Genetics; Jennifer Haley, who's been with Gibby's since 2020, is General Manager.

Why we go by Gibby's Craft Cannabis

You'll see two names around here, and both are us. Gibby's Garden is the legal, licensed name, it's on our license, MB281347, and on the regulatory paperwork. Gibby's Craft Cannabis is how we talk about the brand day to day, because "craft cannabis" says in two words what we actually do: grow a little, grow it carefully, finish it by hand. Same family, same Uxbridge grow, same flower, one name for the records, one for the shelf.

What we actually make

We grow small-batch, hand-crafted indoor flower. Out of more than 100 strains we've pheno-hunted, grown in many versions to find the best individual plants, 12 made our current menu. We grow non-irradiated and without synthetic pesticides, and we sell wholesale to licensed dispensaries rather than running our own store. So if you want to try it, the move is to ask for Gibby's Craft Cannabis by name at your dispensary.

The rest of the story is really in the details of how and why we grow this way. Our microbusiness explainer covers the license that makes it possible, how we grow walks the process step by step, and craft versus commercial explains what small scale actually changes about the flower.
